Chestnut Street Open House
Citizen Input is Driving Chestnut Street Project
Over the past year, three separate groups of Wahoo residents have weighed in on what the City should do with Chestnut Street and how it could be improved. In 2015 the Wahoo Expressway opened and the City of Wahoo was left with a major thoroughfare through town in need of many repairs. Community members have participated in several discussions to help City leaders and its hired engineering firm address the needs and priorities of Wahoo citizens with this street, and how this street-scape should look. A public open house meeting will be held on August 3rd at the Wahoo Public Library from 5:30-7:30 p.m. to enable the entire community to learn more about the need for the project and a few options for street-scapes along the route as well as design options for the 5th & Chestnut intersection, which is our entrance to downtown Wahoo. Even after the opening of the Expressway, Chestnut Street continues to have close to 6,000 vehicles traveling on it per day. It is truly the gateway into our community and downtown. Community members that have participated in our planning process, as well as the Mayor and Council, want to demonstrate the pride and quality of life of the community and be an impressive inviting experience for visitors and a place of pride for all residents. We hope you take the time to become informed about this project and offer your comments.
